Eric Hosmer Parents: Meet Ileana Hosmer and Mike Hosmer

Eric John Hosmer is a Major League Baseball first baseman who currently plays for the Boston Red Sox (MLB). He was a member of the San Diego Padres from 2018 to 2022 and the Kansas City Royals from 2011 to 2017.

Eric Hosmer was born on October 24, 1989, to Ileana Hosmer and Mike Hosmer. Mike, Hosmer’s father, is a retired firefighter, and Ileana, his mother, is a nurse.

His mother was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States with her family when she was seven years old to escape Fidel Castro’s regime, where she grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Mike and Ileana met in 1979, when Mike was assigned to work at Coral Gables Hospital in Coral Gables, Florida. Four years later, they married.

Hosmer attributed his success as a baseball player to his family. His father volunteered to work 48-hour shifts in a Liberty City firehouse to attend Eric’s baseball games, which he usually coached.

After finishing long shifts at work, his father assisted him with batting practice, while his mother assisted him with homework and recorded every baseball game to evaluate Hosmer’s baseball ability and further hone his skills.
