Michael Alden (Michael Alden) Norell (born October 4, 1937 in Wallace, Idaho) is an American screenwriter, actor, and executive producer who appeared in the Jack Webb-produced television series Emergency! from 1972 to 1978 as Captain Henry “Hank” Stanley. Norell was born in the Idaho town of Wallace. His family relocated to follow his father, who served in the Army and eventually retired as a Brigadier General. During the war, his father was deployed to Korea. The family was based out of Tokyo, Japan. After the war, Norell returned to the United States and enrolled in Falls Church High School in Virginia, where he participated in numerous school plays. He majored in journalism at Washington and Lee University while in college. Norell enlisted in the Army after graduating from college and served for five years, retiring with the rank of Captain. He went to work for the Richmond Times-Dispatch after his army service. After returning to civilian life, he moved to New York City and pursued acting full-time. He came in Hollywood six months later, winning the part of Captain Henry “Hank” Stanley on the programme Emergency! Norell moved to screenwriting when Emergency! ended, relying on his expertise creating screenplays for the show. He wrote for a variety of programmes, including The Love Boat, The Love Boat: The Next Wave, Nash Bridges, and The Magnificent Seven. He has also written for the big screen.Table of Contents
